update friday noon

update from davey:
More good news. This morning as I was talking with Katie I asked her if she would like some ice to chew to which she responded yes. I went and got the Speech Pathologist who is responsible for rehabbing her voice and throat/eating.

Katie ate a few spoonfuls of ice, then proceeded to drink some water out of the spoon and then using a straw. Each time she swallowed and the liquid went down the right tube. Then the therapist moved on to apple sauce. Katie was not at all thrilled with the sauce and I had the brilliant (though not particularly healthy) idea of getting a malt cup. She loved the malt cup. She ate quite a few bites and all without aspiration. This is very big. Her body is remembering how to function and doing it very well. She continues to get stronger and we are pleased.

I spoke to her Dr that is over her care (Dr of internal medicine) and he said that it is a miracle that she is where she is now. He couldn't be more happy and he can't wait for more miracles to happen. Not sure if he's a believer, but perhaps he will be soon. He believes that Katie will probably be in this room until they can get the skull piece put back in place. If it wasn't for that they would be looking to get her to the rehab wing by next week.

So we're taking it day by day.

Speaking of the skull piece....Lord, Bring us to our knees to bring them to their knees

Prayer combined with malt cups and Tom Petty are sure to do the trick!!!

Isn't God great???? Have you read the book Tapestry? Katie is a thread in God's tapestry and her thread feeds so many other threads...God is using this to touch people right in your hospital and all over the world.
Amazing....What a God we serve!

Praise God that His name is being spoken and praised on the radio because of Katie's story! It was so neat to hear Davey's voice after all these years.

Continuing to pray constantly for Katie and all those caring for her.

from Chris Sterk
To Katie & Davie and family - I'm amazed and in awesome wonder of God's amazing grace - how sweet his sound. We are praying without ceasing for God's healing and complete restoration in Katie. Your faith Davey has given me (as well as many others) renewal of God's power and love for his children. Not that I doubted his love, but I think I'm at a crossroads in my walk with God. I'm beginning to understand what it means to be a TRUE follower of Christ and what he wants from me. He wants us on our knees worshipping and honoring him for his sufficient grace. Thanks for spurring my faith. But more importantly thank you God for what you are doing in and thru Katie. You are awesome in every way!
